Race Equality Week is an annual UK-wide movement uniting thousands of organisations and individuals, to address the barriers to race equality in the workplace. The theme for 2024 is #ListenActChange.
During the week we’re encouraging you to take part in our Race Equality Week learning challenge with your teams to drive positive change in your organisation.
Below you’ll find details of different resources to support learning and development in the arena of equality, diversity and inclusivity. From group-based activities which include learning resources to generate discussion within teams or activities delivered by a trainer, individual learning – activities individuals can do on their own or longer-term learning and development.
During Race Equality Week we're asking you to do two things:

Supporting a diverse workforce: Understanding racism
This introductory overview gives a current thinking and understanding about racism. It encourages reflection and discussion around understanding racism and the legal context, providing an opportunity to identify any actions to take forward.
Within the document you'll find the 3 A's model which is a great tool to use to capture you and your teams awareness of issues experienced, appreciation and reflections of any issues, and allows you to capture any actions you'll take moving forwards.

Confident with difference
This resource is made up of four short films, each around three to four minutes long. Each film is accompanied by an activity to generate discussions to consider how well diversity is embraced within your organisation and how you could improve.
This is a great resource to use with your teams in a team meeting.

Culturally Appropriate Care - Supporting individuals from ethnic minority groups and backgrounds
We’ve created this training session to be used to help with learning around ways to find out more about the person you’re supporting by understanding the difference between direct and indirect discrimination.
The training can help with developing a broader understanding of how to relate and work more effectively with people from diverse cultures and gain an awareness of the possible impact of having dementia and/or a learning disability if you’re from an ethnic minority group.

Achieving equity in the workplace – celebrating and supporting our Black sisters in social care
During Black History Month we spoke to Black women leaders in social care to recognise and celebrate the role of Black women in adult social care, hearing about their experiences, challenges and successes in the workplace.
This recorded webinar will support you in understanding different challenges faced by different people.
Creating an inclusive organisation eLearning modules
These two eLearning modules are for anyone working in social care who’d like to learn more about equality, diversity and inclusion. They explore the barriers to career progression that people from ethnic minority backgrounds often face and will support learners to build confidence to improve equality, diversity and inclusion within their organisation.
The two modules cost £90 and employers can claim £100 from the WDF upon completion of the two modules per learner, subject to meeting the eligibility criteria of the funding.

Understanding workplace culture
Understanding Workplace Culture is a practical continuing professional development (CPD) module aimed at registered managers and other managers currently working in adult social care services. This CPD module will help managers to explore the critical links between vision, values and culture, providing practical support to influence change and develop the culture of their service.
The one-day course is available exclusively from a number of Â鶹ÉäÇø’s endorsed learning provider.

Moving Up
Our Moving Up programme supports Black and Asian minoritised groups who are managers or aspiring managers and have the desire and drive to progress in their career but are facing blockages preventing them from doing so. The programme gives participants an increased understanding of who they are, their strengths and weaknesses and a variety of techniques to help overcome any personal challenges. Register by 15 March for the next programme starting on 30 April.

A positive culture toolkit for adult social care
This toolkit is for anyone responsible for the culture, management and leadership in adult social care workplaces of all sizes. It will support managers at different stages of their workplace culture journey to establish, maintain and improve workplace culture so that it’s inclusive, compassionate and collaborative.
You’ll find checklists, other resources and best practice examples to enable you to analyse your workplace culture and identify actions.

SC-WRES - a future tool to support the achievement of equality in the social care workforce
Developed by Â鶹ÉäÇø, the Social Care Workforce Race Equality Standard (SC-WRES) is a tool which can be used to identify issues, take action and measure improvements in the workforce with respect to the experiences of people from a Black, Asian and minoritised ethnic background.
Initially piloted by 18 trailblazing local authorities in 2021-22, the tool has been rolled out further throughout 2023-24. Data from workplaces is collected against nine key metrics and can then be used to create action plans and monitor positive change over time. We’ll be publishing our findings from the latest data collection in March 2024.
