Championing registered managers

This March, we’re shining our spotlight on registered managers. We’ll be championing the crucial role and highlighting the support we have available for you in your role as a registered manager.

Registered managers are at the heart of their organisations. In 2022/23 there were around 25,000 registered managers in post. You play a vital role in ensuring the highest quality of care for people drawing on support and in supporting your team to be happy and effective in their roles.

We know from our data that services with a stable registered manager in place have higher Care Quality Commission (CQC) scores. Our data also finds that turnover rates across an organisation are lower when an experienced registered manager is in post.

This campaign will celebrate and recognise the important role of registered managers, signpost to the wide range of resources we have available and provide further information and insights on specific topics of interest to you right now. This includes how to prepare for changes to CQC inspection, as we know that managers are looking for support with the new Single Assessment Framework.

We’ll also be looking at the importance of managing change and succession planning, as with 32% of registered managers reaching retirement age in the next 15 years, succession planning is key to ensuring that services continue to provide well-led, consistent quality care.

Resources

Connect with other managers

Our networks are a place for managers to come together in their local area. They offer a safe space to connect with peers, support each other’s challenges and share skills and best practice. At each network, managers hear from a range of guest speakers including local CQC inspection teams and commissioners. Our networks are chaired and led by registered managers and new attendees are always welcome.

Find your local network

We also have a Facebook group open to all registered managers and frontline managers in similar roles to connect and share advice, experiences and guidance.
